  12. The Internet is a computer network that you can use to exchange ideas 
  13. and develop knowledge.  The Internet is actually a "network of networks."  
  14. The networks that comprise it are thousands of local-area networks--groups 
  15. of computers connected by cables--that have been set up by universities, 
  16. government agencies, research institutions, and corporations all over 
  17. the world.  The Internet is the world's largest computer network, with over 20 million people 
  18. already connected.  Users on the Internet can send e-mail to each other, download files, 
  19. participate in online discussions on a variety topics and even purchase 
  20. products.
